Our NEW ADDRESS in Santa Fe

February 8, 2021By 20

As you know from my earlier blog, last year we looked for a house but couldn’t find one we liked. All the homes we saw needed too much work. For a variety of reasons, the real estate market was tight. Early in the process, Sandra, our agent, pointed us to an empty lot. We loved the location and soon afterward, we had our permits to build a house. Cindy and I decided to keep the Santa Fe architectural style. After a few months of construction, it is starting to look like a real house.

While we can’t yet move in, we already have a mailbox and a working address.

Our NEW ADDRESS is:
4 Calle Cal
Santa Fe, NM 87508

Where we are building this house, there are a few restrictions in place to keep intact the integrity of the area and the land. The color of the house has to be an earth tone. There is a maximum height we can not exceed and a range of heated square feet where we can build. Cutting trees on the lot had to be a minimum, and we have to collect the rainwater from the roof in rain barrels in order to use it to water plants and trees. And what’s really cool, is that we will be living in a ‘dark sky community’. This means there is a limit on how much light pollution you can create. As a result, all the houses’ lights face down, not up. In my opinion, these are all all good things.

One reason why we also moved to Santa Fe is to enjoy all four seasons, including winter. This year our winter is influenced by La Niña. La Niña means Little Girl in Spanish. La Niña is also sometimes called El Viejo, anti-El Niño, or simply “a cold event.” New Mexico State Climatologist David DuBois explains that La Niña is a natural climate pattern dictated by central Pacific sea surface temperatures. During a year with La Niña, jet streams are pushed north leaving the southern half of the country dry and warm for the fall and winter months.

Well, this mild winter has been perfect for building a house, but not so much for enjoying many snow days in and around Santa Fe. We had a few wonderful snow days, where the already tranquil life in Santa Fe was even more peaceful.

Now that the roof on our house is closed, and the windows and doors are in, I hope for a few heavy snowstorms. Snow, like the East Coast and part of Europe, had in the last couple of weeks.

On the health front, New Mexico is doing pretty well handling Covid-19. We are top five in the country when it comes to the vaccine. Let’s hope life gets better and that we can soon travel again.

Travel means we would love for you to come and visit beautiful Santa Fe. Are you ready for your trip to Santa Fe?
