Grand Teton = Grand Experience

October 26, 2014By 12

The United States is famous for so many things. People living in other countries sometimes associate the U.S. with not so nice things.  Unhealthy lifestyles, a messy, polarized political situation and …. forget all this. Look at the absolute beauty this country has.

The U.S. has numerous well managed and maintained National Parks. Grand Teton in the State of Wyoming is one of them. It deserves the adjective “breathtaking”.

Wyoming is the 36th biggest state but the second last in inhabitants with only 500’000 (in an area of 5x the size of Switzerland). This tells you that nature and wildlife dominate, especially in Wyoming. When you hike, you enter THEIR land. You are an intruder. (Names in ( ) are in German) Bears, Elks (Elch), River Otters, Eagles (Adler), Beavers (Biber), Moose (männl. Elch). Bison (Wisent), Buffalos (Büffel), Pronghorns (ähnlich Rehen), Coyotes (Kojote), Mule Deer, Wolfs and sweet brown Squirrels (Eichhörnchen).………. are present. These are just a few out of thousands. You can see them, but don’t try to feed or touch them. As a matter of fact you have to watch from a distance in order to be safe. More about the amazing wildlife in my follow up blog.

Cindy and I stayed in a nice hotel in a room with a fireplace in Jackson Hole. One thing you notice right away in Jackson Hole is that people are very health oriented. You see that they are outdoorsy and active: hiking, biking, skiing in winter time, or just spending time outdoors. It feels great to be around “athletes”.

The valley of Jackson Hole is 55miles (89 km) long, 13 miles (21km) wide and has an average altitude of 6800ft (2075müM). From there you have eight peaks over 12’000ft (3660m) in elevation. The highest peak is Grand Teton with 13’770ft (4200m).

In the north of the valley is the Yellowstone National Park, another incredible place to visit. We visited Yellowstone on a day trip. Some roads were already closed due to animal activities. Just to give you an idea, bears eat as much as 20’000kcal/day in fall in order to get ready for hibernation.

But let’s go for a ride and explore the valley. Look at the slideshow and let me know if you would like to go and inhale the beauty of this part of the world. This is definitely a place we want to visit again. Thinking about seeing it all the 4 seasons. Winter with it’s world famous “super” powder snow, Spring with thousands of wildflowers and the rich green in Summer.

Let’s go – do you join us?
