A Weekend of Sharing and Reflecting

February 9, 2019By 8

For many years, the first weekend of the New Year has meant a trip to Stowe, Vermont for Cindy and me for the annual FCS Race For Kids (Financial Communication Society). This year was unique as it was FCS’ 20th Anniversary of the event. As one of the biggest fundraisers of the year, Race For Kids, as it’s known, is hugely popular. Financial services clients, agencies, and the media spend time together skiing, dining, and swapping good marketing intel all the while knowing that the proceeds from this amazing weekend go to a good cause.

The charities are:

Hope & Heroes Columbia University Medical Center
Downey Side Adoption Agency
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Vermont

There are many activities during the day for families. Later in the afternoon, you can sit, have a drink, and learn a few things at the Fireside Forums featuring panel discussions with senior executives from leading agencies and financial institutions.

This year we heard from Stephen Tisdalle, Chief Marketing Officer, State Street Global Advisors; Marty Willis, Chief Marketing Officer, Nuveen; and Emily Pachuta, Chief Marketing Officer – Americas, Invesco.

For me, it’s an excellent opportunity to stay connected to the friends I’ve made at the FCS while doing what I love to do – photograph people having fun while participating in a worthy cause. Needless to say that the Ski-Race is the best. It puts me back to the sport I grew up with. Some of the skiers are really excellent. They actually know precisely where I am on the mountain and look at me like it is a portrait session.

About Friday evening when we hear from the charities – it’s so wonderful when you can see and read hope in the children’s eyes. Children who were not as lucky as others. Children with death threatening cancer, children with no parents, without a home, children who fight for their lives and have big wishes. The FCS helps those children’s in need. They have hope and strength and so many succeed.

Charity, Fire Forum discussions, camaraderie, love for skiing, outdoor activity, the charming town of Stowe and the ski race make it a three-day wonderful event.
